What is the City to the Sea Program?

The City to the Sea Program is about getting kids and young adults interested in triathlon. Through corporate sponsorship, the Program provides kids with swimming and running gear, a triathlon bike, and a 12-week program that ends with particpation in the Nautica Malibu triathlon on September 14, 2008.

What does the Training Program Involve?

The training program is a 12-week program designed for an individual that is already in reasonably good athletic shape.  The program requires that the participant dedicate a minimum of 7-10 hours per week to swimming, biking, running, and weight training.  The program also includes nutrition recommendations and an overall nutrition plan.

Have kids been chosen for the 2008 Nautica Malibu triathlon?

Yes.  Three kids have already been chosen for the 2008 season.  The three kids bios are located below.  Put simply, they are amazing.  They are all high school students from the city of Rialto.  They are all student athletes (track and soccer) and all maintain a 3.5 GPA or better.

Francisco Ortega:  Francisco is a fifteen-year-old, bi-lingual sophomore who has excelled both academically and in school sports. Although he has never competed in a triathlon, Francisco is a member of the high school track and field team and will be training to compete in all three disciplines of the Malibu race. With a bit of work on the bike and swim, he should post some impressive results for a first timer.

Sakia and Samia Sailinuu:  Sakia and Samia are sisters who also happen to be identical twins. Both are great students with solid backgrounds in school sports and extracurricular activities. Sakia and Samia have also not competed in a triathlon, though they will be training to compete on two separate relay teams in which they will complete the bicycle and run portions of the event.
